Buccaneers’ C.J. Wilson Suffered “Serious” Fireworks Hand Injury | The Big Lead
Wilson injured his hand during a fireworks accident over the weekend. Wilson told a Charlotte television station that his son lost two fingers in a July 4 fireworks accident.
Wilson was brought up from the practice squad past year and played in two games.
There was little word on Wilson’s condition outside of a brief Bucs statement. We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation.
“We are aware that C.J. was involved in an accident that occurred over the July 4th holiday”, a spokesman for the National Football League team said Wednesday.
Maj. Lee Caskey of the Lincoln County sheriff’s office said there was no call for an ambulance or emergency medical care that night, though a fire department and the sheriff’s office were eventually called to a hospital where Wilson had been taken for treatment. A ex- undrafted free agent of the Chicago Bears after starring collegiately at North Carolina State, Wilson joined the Buccaneers last season.
Turner declined to discuss specifics of the injury and referred all further questions about Wilson’s situation to the Buccaneers, but a team source told ESPN National Football League Insider Ed Werder that the injury was “significant”. He appeared in just 2 games for Tampa last season.
The fact that the Bucs have at least been able to contact Wilson puts them lightyears ahead of the Giants who, according to the most recent report, have yet to reach Pierre-Paul, their franchise-tagged defensive end.
