Bucks break warriors’ streak
The Golden State Warriors’ NBA-record start ended after 24 wins when they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 108-95 on Saturday night.
After committing at least 20 turnovers in six of their first seven games last season, the Warriors hit that level on five times over the remaining 75 games – a total of 11.
His team, which normally makes 13 3s a game, was 6 of 26 from behind the arc. “We didn’t have it tonight”, said Warriors coach Luke Walton. Golden State bumped off Phoenix earlier this season 135-116 behind Curry’s 41 points and nine assists and a 22-for-38 night from three-point range on November 27.
Reigning league MVP Curry – who finished the game with 28 points – told ESPN: “We’re a little upset that it came to an end”. “Thirty three wins was within our grasp”.
The NBA all-time record of straight victories was set by the Los Angeles Lakers with 33 consecutive wins in the 1971-72 season.
The Bucks also stopped the Lakers’ winning steak in 1972. Klay Thompson, returning after missing a game with a sprained ankle, was 4 of 14. “It caught up to us”. Still obviously a very, very good team. We looked like we ran out of gas. Including Friday night in Boston, lineups that feature Ezeli and Marreese Speights have clogged Golden State’s normally attractive attack in a noticeable way over their past two contests, and it might’ve made more sense to play Ian Clark and Brandon Rush a bit more. Reigning league MVP Steph Curry led the Warriors with 28 points, while Greg Moose Monroe paced the Bucks’ balanced attack with 28 points and 11 rebounds.
“For us, we didn’t talk about the streak”, said Kidd.
“We still have some things we want to go through with him before we let him get back out there”, Blatt said. With a huge win in front of a packed house, this could be positive momentum that pushes the Bucks in the right direction and turns their season around.
The C’s saw fatigue in the first half, scoring just 38 points, but it was that great spirit – the same one we’ve seen in plenty of back-end back-to-backs – that showed in the second half, specifically in the third quarter.
Milwaukee went into the intermission up 59-48, and the BMO Harris Bradley center was rocking. “We got some stops”, Curry said. “But for 48 minutes, I don’t think anybody can say we played as hard as they did”.
“We have this road trip and another at the end of the month”.
The Warriors will be fine, and they’re still on pace to make history. “They played and they’re going to continue to play at a high level”. You start to believe that.
“And, yeah, you should get paid market value, paid for what you’re worth, but at the time, for four years, I was comfortable with it”, Curry further shared.
“Now we can focus on what we need to focus on”. In a rematch of last year’s Finals, the Cavs are enjoying a 15-7 start to the season despite point guard Kyrie Irving’s recovery from a knee injury. “But ending up with our first loss, you can kind of appreciate what we were able to accomplish”.
Saturday’s loss also ended an emerging debate over how to calculate the Warriors’ winning streak.
The stunning defeat came at the end of a grueling seven-game road trip for the tired Warriors, who needed a double overtime marathon to beat the Boston Celtics on Friday and extend the streak to 28 straight regular season wins dating back to last season.
