Bucks’ Coach Jason Kidd to Undergo Hip Surgery
Jason Kidd will have right hip surgery in NY on Monday and he’s expected to miss “significant time” in January.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel first reported Kidd’s plans to have surgery.
“It’s been chronic for the last three to four years, since I was [playing] in Dallas the last time”, Kidd told Gardner.
The longtime point guard says he began to feel pain in the hip as he wound down his Hall of Fame career in Dallas.
Kidd is expected to make a full recovery and will resume his coaching duties when physically able, though there is now no timetable for his return to the bench.
Prunty has already coached the Bucks once this season, a loss in Orlando when Kidd was suspended for slapping the ball out of referee Zach Zarba’s hands in a loss to Sacreamento.
“I have every confidence in Joe to lead our team during my absence”, said Kidd in a release. He coached during the Bucks’ 101-95 win over the host Phoenix Suns on Sunday.
Kidd joins Warriors coach Steve Kerr (recovering from back surgery) on the sideline, and Prunty becomes the league’s fourth interim coach, joining Golden State’s Luke Walton, Houston’s J.B.
“I’ve taken all the medicine I can do. I have to fix myself and then we move on and get back to work”.
Prunty is now in his 20th season in the National Basketball Association, including his second season as an assistant coach with the Bucks after serving as an assistant coach under Kidd with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2013-14 season. The Bucks’ next game is on Wednesday against the visiting Philadelphia 76ers.
