Bucks’ Mayo says Warriors’ Green disrespected Carter-Williams
The Warriors are 12-0 at home this season. Center Greg Monroe, their big free-agent acquisition this summer, sustained a mild knee injury earlier this week that forced him to miss the last two games and could keep him out of action. Warriors fans wore shirts with “10-18” across the front in response to the “24-1” shirts that Bucks fans donned last week in hopes their team would hand Golden State its first loss.
Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green combined to make eight consecutive shots during a three-minute flurry late in the second quarter to propel the Golden State Warriors to a 128-103 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday (Thursday NZ time).
“Show your class”, Mayo said he told Green before patting him on the head and touching off a minor physical altercation. “Obviously a team that gave us our one in the loss column, and we felt they could have won with a little more class”.
Warriors forward Draymond Green and Bucks guard O.J. Mayo got into a minor physical altercation that resulted in several other players, coaches and referees stepping in to assure nothing bigger happened.
Green pushed away Mayo’s arm before getting into a bit of a shoving match with the Bucks’ Khris Middleton. A few more players started shoving, but everything was quickly broken up.
Asked whether that was what the altercation was mostly about, Green said, “Once again, I’m not going to go into what he said, what you think he may have said, he may have said or may not have said, but no man is going to touch my head”.
Rising star Kristaps Porzingis didn’t win the duel of top rookies with Okafor, but he finished with eight points, four rebounds and three blocked shots, a contribution that had Knicks coach Derek Fisher saying the Knicks are “a better team when he’s on the floor”.
“We were trying to hit home runs and shooting the fireballs from deep, things like that”, center Festus Ezeli said.
The Bucks extended that lead to 12 points at the half as they were able to pick apart Golden State’s defense and shoot 60 percent in the highest-scoring first half against the Warriors since Oklahoma City scored 71 on January 17, 2014. But we’re not going to beat the great teams playing like that. “We’re competitors, so we’re not complaining about it. It is fun to play that way”, Livingston said. His explosion sparked Golden State’s tremendous fourth-quarter offense, as the Warriors outscored Milwaukee 36-19 in the game’s final period to avoid their second loss of the season.
It was a dominating 24-minute stretch of play that saw Golden State turn a two-point deficit into a 40-point lead.
“It has been kind of a playoff feel just with the streak and all the media and attention around”, Green said. “Just respect my teammate, as well as we respect you guys”. The Spurs are now a 7.5-point home favorite over the Clippers and if that seems high, note that San Antonio is 10-4 against the spread this season as a home favorite, winning by an average margin of 16.8. Curry hit a 3-pointer in the opening minute to extend his streak to 100 straight regular-season games with a 3-pointer.
