Buffalo Bills fire coach Rex Ryan
He was working under former G.M. Buddy Nix when they hired Doug Marrone in 2013 and became G.M. a short time later, which left him in charge when Ryan was hired before the 2015 season.
Ryan called it one of the most hard losses of his career.
The Bills are now 7-8 on the season. It’s been a joyous ride and I wish it didn’t end so soon. Ryan is just two years into a contract that pays him $5.5 million annually, which leaves Ryan with nearly $17 million still due his way when factoring in his final game check this season.
The Bills own a 7-8 record through 15 games.
The Bills came from 14 points down twice on Saturday to take the lead late in the 4th quarter before the Dolphins tied it and sent the game to overtime.
Worse yet, the Bills had just 10 men on the field when Ajayi broke free, the final nail in the coffin of Ryan’s regime.
Ryan had said in the past that the Bills would be his final coaching job, and his brash, outgoing persona would appear to be a flawless fit for a role as a television analyst. “And it cost us the game”.
Thurman was initially handed more of the play calling duties at the beginning of the season, but it was unclear as to whether those responsibilities were later shared with both the head coach and assistant head coach. Despite making the AFC Championship Game two years in a row with the Jets, Ryan totaled a 46-50 record as a head coach. I can only hope that the front office pays close attention to every detail this offseason to choose the RIGHT candidate – not just the one with the biggest name.
As for the Bills, the two pressing issues now are: 1) Is Lynn going to be the answer moving forward? The Bills may get an early leg up on potential Lynn suitors by seeing what he can do against the Jets this Sunday. However, less than two years into a five-year contract, Ryan is now out of a job. They can finish at 8-8 again this season if they beat the downtrodden Jets. Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynnwill take over as the interim head coach in Week 17, and he’s been a favorite of many in Buffalo since coming aboard. Rob was hired in January to improve a defense that finished 19th in the National Football League a year ago.
