Buffalo Bills’ home has a new name: New Era Field
“I think it’s really exciting because the creativity between Pegula Sports and Entertainment, what we do here with the Bills, they’re (New Era) a massive creative team with what they do across the globe”, Brandon said.
“It was important to the Bills organization that a stadium naming rights agreement made sense”.
“To have the New Era name associated with the Buffalo Bills organization is an honor”, said New Era President and CEO Chris Koch. When you hear major changes anywhere, you’d like it to stay local and New Era is local.
The Buffalo Bills and New Era Cap held a press conference on Thursday to formally introduce the naming rights partnership between the companies.
New Era is the world’s largest outfitter of team caps, having struck 500 licensing deals worldwide, including the NFL, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the NHL.
That’s because the Buffalo Bills have entered in to a naming rights agreement with cap maker New Era for the now-former Ralph Wilson Stadium. We all know he was responsible for bringing the Bills to Buffalo in 1959 and keeping them here for so many years. “I understand that it’s become quite the photo op for fans and Ralph would have loved that”.
Being a local company that has made a name for itself worldwide is why Bills president Russ Brandon called the naming rights agreement a flawless fit. “But a local one is going to feel good because the local folks in Buffalo do care about the local community and the ties with that”.
The company will get an immediate boost in prime-time exposure during the Bills’ home opener, a Thursday night game against the New York Jets on September 15. Because the agreement was reached so late in the summer, some of the signage won’t be ready until next season.
Commissioner Roger Goodell, a Western New York native who grew up a fan of the team, applauded the agreement. “Our brands not only share a hometown, but we share a long history in the world of sports”.
“Now I am very cognizant that we have some big shoes to fill with our agreement to rename this stadium”, Koch said. “When he died, we were a very small, USA -based baseball company”.
