Buffalo Sabres acquire conditional third-round pick for McGinn
The Anaheim Ducks acquired forward Brandon Pirri from the Florida Panthers on Monday in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2016 National Hockey League draft.
McGinn, who is in the final year of his contract, had 14 goals in 63 games with the Sabres this season.
Pirri, 24, hasn’t played since sustaining an ankle injury February 13 against the Nashville Predators.
The GM said he wasn’t close to dealing the team’s other unrestricted free agents, like goaltender Chad Johnson and forward David Legwand.
McGinn was traded for a third round draft pick for the Sabres in 2016 but can become a second round pick in 2017 if the Ducks win the first two rounds of the playoffs. He has 11 goals and 24 points in 52 games this season.
Pirri scored a career-high 22 goals in 49 games for the Panthers last season.
The Ducks didn’t have a second-round pick this year – which they sent to Vancouver to acquire defenseman Kevin Bieksa – but had an extra third-round pick to use as currency in a deal.
