Buffalo Sabres’ Ryan O’Reilly charged leaving scene of accident after episode in Ontario
Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police say they were dispatched to the Lucan, Ont., coffee chain where a green Chevrolet pickup truck struck the building around 4 a.m. ET Thursday.
O’Reilly’s blood-alcohol content was found to be over Ontario’s legal limit of.08% and he was charged with driving while impaired. Police say O’Reilly continued to drive the vehicle before abandoning it and moving on foot with his unnamed passenger. He was placed under arrest and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for breath testing.
As a result of the investigation, O’Reilly faces impaired driving and fail to remain charges. He’s set to appear on August 20 in a London, Ontario court.
O’Reilly was recently acquired by the Sabres during a draft day trade, and signed a seven-year, $52.5 million extension.
In 6 years with the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League, O’Reilly has compiled 90 goals and 156 assists.
The Sabres have yet to comment on the report.
In May, O’Reilly posted to his official Instagram account a photo of a 1951 Chevy truck alongside the caption “Got my new truck”.
O’Reilly was awarded the 2014 Lady Byng Trophy “given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability”.
