Buffett not planning to boost American Airlines stake over 10 percent
The big push for Apple may be surprising to many, as Buffett is also known for avoiding tech companies because he admits he doesn’t understand a lot of the industry.
The billionaire investor said on CNBC Monday that Berkshire Hathaway now holds about 133 million shares of Apple after buying yet more of the company’s stock this year.
As for the debate on stocks versus bonds – and Buffett’s preference for stocks – Janjigian says bond investors are “more skeptical” of Trump’s policies than equity investors. He had supported Democrat Hillary Clinton in her bid to win the White House.
“But I wanted to put on the walls days of extreme panic in Wall Street, just as a reminder that anything can happen in this world”, Buffett said.
The growth in the company’s book value – that is the company’s assets minus its liabilities and Mr Buffett’s preferred measure of Berkshire’s performance – was 10.7% in 2016, while the S&P 500 rose 12.0%.
“That simply isn’t the case: both American corporations and private investors are today awash in funds looking to be sensibly deployed”.
In the letter Buffett characterised active fund managers as “smart people” who “set out to do better than average in securities markets”.

Despite a roaring stock market in the United States, actively managed mutual funds bled $342 billion last year, their second straight year of outflows.
