Buhari under Pressure to Name Ministers, Prefers Monocracy, Says PDP
The list may be presented to the Senate before October 1.
As Nigerians wait on President Muhammadu Buhari to unveil his cabinet, indication emerged Monday that the list of ministers to be appointed is ready.
At last President Mohammadu Buhari has handed the list of 36 ministers to his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang for onward transmission to the National Assembly, FrontiersNews has reported.
Addressing the lawmakers at Tuesday’s plenary session, Saraki said, “As we await the list of ministerial nominees this week, I believe the presence of ministers will create the space for greater policy engagement with the executive arm of government”.
“On this note, I want to urge you all my colleagues to ensure that what is uppermost in our minds as we begin the constitutional task of screening of ministerial nominees is the overall interest of our country, informed by the enormity and the urgency of the challenges before us”, said the senate leader, adding once the list is submitted, the senators must not be held down by unnecessary politicking.
Metuh also accused the ruling All Progressive Congress of running government affairs as a sole administrator.
He had at different times said he was in search of Nigerians with integrity to be part of his team that would reposition the country.
“Expectations that President Buhari would forward the list before going to Daura for the Sallah celebrations and then New York, United States for the 70th United Nations General Assembly, were dashed”.
“Much more pathetic and shocking, but very revealing of the insincerity and ineptitude of those around the president was the disconcerting excuse by an aide of the president in trying to explain away this blunder”.
The two key individuals are presently attending the United Nations meeting with Mr. President.
“Instead of admitting failure and apologising to Nigerians, the presidency sought to hoodwink the public by claiming that the meeting was not one of the official events which the president and his delegation are in New York for, only for the official brochure of the meeting tagged: “High Level Event on the Lake Chad Basin”, to show that “high level representation from the government of Nigeria” was scheduled to make contributions at the meeting”.
President Buhari had earlier promised that his cabinet would be ready latest September 30.
