Bulls Draft Denzel Valentine At 14
The Bulls held on to their assigned #14 selection in tonight’s draft, selecting Denzel Valentine out of Michigan State. Forman added that Valentine, a natural shooting guard, has the ability to play both point guard and small forward, depending on the lineup; Valentine added in a conference call with Bulls reporters that his best attribute is that versatility, “being able to play one through three on both sides of the ball”.
Speaking after the Derrick Rose trade, Gar Forman’s grand plans of building a younger and more dynamic roster seem to contradict with the drafting of Valentine, particularly when Wade Baldwin and Timothe Luwawu were available for the Bulls at pick No. 14. “I feel like when I get to the next level, I’m just gonna keep on getting better”.
Valentine became only the fourth player in the history of Michigan State to record a triple double.
The last Michigan State player to win Big Ten Player of the Year before Denzel Valentine was Draymond Green, and the two have often been compared to one another despite the fact that they play totally different positions. He’s got good size and a 6-10 wingspan.
There’s an upside to being a senior in the first round of the National Basketball Association draft, in territory mostly surrounded by underclassmen and worldwide players.
“Yeah I’ve already been talking to him, face-timing, and he’s very excited for me”. “I could play the off guard or I could get on the wing or feed Jimmy Butler and have him score and play off him”.
“I’m very pumped up”, Valentine said.
Denzel Valentine walks off stage after being selected 14th overall by the Chicago Bulls during the NBA basketball draft, Thursday, June 23, 2016, in NY. The Bulls’ front office also received a ringing endorsement from Izzo, who said Valentine’s toughness to play through injuries couldn’t be questioned. But he also missed four games for arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in December. “He talked about how some guys will play hurt, I believe what he said was that Denzel will play dead”. He’s also reportedly been flagged with concerns regarding his knees, which is never good.
Forman also said the team’s medical staff is “very, very comfortable” with Valentine’s health status. Valentine went from being potentially undrafted to being seen as a potential lottery pick. From the looks of things, the Chicago Bulls looked like they got a valuable player to help them right away. “I don’t think it happens all at once”.
“We’ve begun that process”, Forman said. We’ll continue to evaluate and see how we can continue moving in the right direction.
