Bulls trade Hinrich to Atlanta for second time
Hinrich has been used sparingly this season, though he did appear in seven consecutive games for the Bulls prior to the All-Star break. Lastly, Budenholzer spoke about Hinrich helping the team “somehow, some way…in a playoff game”, and while outsiders may snicker at the thought of his veteran “presence”, that could be a real thing from the Hawks perspective. Both Jeff Teague and Dennis Schröder were retained at the deadline despite rumblings of a trade market and, to put it frankly, each Atlanta point guard is significantly better than the now 35-year-old version of Kirk Hinrich.
The trade will only affect the fringes of the rosters for the three teams. Let’s quickly examine both parts anyways, as the moves both serve some objective in the team’s plans for this season.
Mack will be reunited with Quin Snyder with the Jazz.
Holiday had hoped his career would blossom after signing with the Hawks last summer, but he remained buried on the bench most of the season. Mack will look to battle Trey Burke and Raul Neto for playing time at the point in Utah. He also thanked Mack and Holiday for their time and contributions to the team. First, the Hawks are “set” at the point guard position for the remainder of the 2015-2016 season. Luckily for Hawks fans, his asking price was much cheaper this time around.
During his Bulls tenure, Hinrich played in 748 games (583 starts) and averaged 11.4 ppg, 5.1 apg, 3.0 rpg and 1.14 spg in 31.5 mpg. However, coach Bud loves three-point shooting, and Hinrich at least brings that to the table.
In his third year in the NBA, Holiday (6-6, 185) is averaging 2.4 ppg, 1.0 rpg and 0.4 apg in 26 contests.
Outside of the Hinrich move, the reeling Bulls stood pat, choosing to instead move forward as constructed with the hope that an injury-depleted team can get healthy down the stretch and mount a postseason run this year.
Kirk Hinrich will return for his second stint with the Hawks. His 33% shooting left a lot to be desired, and his contract locked him in for another season after this.
