Burger King’s gross-looking black burgers are coming to the US
Burger King restaurants in the Erie area will honor World Peace Day on Monday by offering Whopper sandwiches for just $2, according to a letter we received from the director of marketing for the company that manages Burger King restaurants in the region.
Unlike the black burgers released in Japan, the USA version doesn’t have black cheese, or squid ink sauce.
Burger King says the companies will give away the burgers on first-come, first-serve basis at a pop-up location near the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta. Burger King and the other chains plan to make separate donations to Peace One Day, a nonprofit that wants to make that date an “annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known”.
The goal for Burger King was to raise awareness for Peace Day, and Machado said it worked. That is, you’re getting the burger if you’re in Atlanta and are willing to get to Burger King’s popup as early as possible to snag yourself a sandwich. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. and will continue until 6:00 p.m. The Peace Burger will include elements of other signature burgers including, Krystal, Denny’s, Wayback Burgers, and Giraffas. The proposal was published as an advertisement in the New York Times and in the Chicago Tribune. In the announcement, Burger King promised to create “the culinary mash-up of a lifetime” and at the same time to “end the beef, with beef”.
After the golden arches had declined to participant, a number of national chains announced they wanted to team up with BK.
“We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference”.
United Nations member states adopted Peace Day, which is September 21, as a day of cease-fire and non-violence.
Even without a formal launch of such a burger on the market, internet users have still expressed their support for this idea, by creating their own DIY McWhoppers and posting the final results on various social networks.
