Burger King to Debut Flame-Grilled Hot Dogs
Burger King is about to become the biggest restaurant seller of hot dogs in the country.
Very few fast food chains aside from Sonic have been able to make the hot dog happen, but that’s exactly what Burger King is setting out to accomplish.
The new hot dogs, called “grill dogs”, will come in two varieties – classic, topped with ketchup, mustard, chopped onions and relish; and chilli cheese.
If Burger King can convince customers to add a hot dog onto their orders, the company could have a victor on its hands.
Before the launch, Burger King tested the hot dogs in select markets in five USA cities previous year, which included a “Rodeo” option with onion rings, cheese, and BBQ sauce, as well as the “A1 Ultimate”, topped with bacon, cheese, and A1 Sauce – neither of which made the cut.
While the trend could be interpreted as a lack of customers clamoring for hot dogs, Solochek says it could also mean Burger King has the opportunity to take over a category that doesn’t face a ton of competition.
Macedo said hot dogs would build on Burger King’s momentum given their growing popularity, including at trendy eateries.
Still, fast-food history is riddled with menu flops, and Burger King is no exception.
“I pray that the Burger King selling hotdogs news is real”.
The introduction of the product follows the bump in the company’s third quarter profits, attributed to the launch of chicken fries and the extra long jalapeno cheeseburger. In less than a year, they had failed. “Some guests would say they loved our hot dogs, and we didn’t even have hot dogs”, he said. If you prefer your dog with chili and cheese that will cost $2.29. “I wasn’t here, but I hear a lot about the popcorn days”, Macedo said. The company says they’re internal videos, but allowed reporters to record them on their phones, meaning they’re likely for marketing purposes.
