Burger King wants to rule the hot dog world
The classic hot dog will sell for $1.99 and the chili cheese dog for $2.29.
The classic hot dog rounds out to about 310 calories, while the chili-cheese dog comes to about 330 calories, the Associated Press reported. Other options were dropped after testing, such as a corn dog and a “rodeo” hot dog with barbecue sauce and crispy onion rings, write the Journal. “We have 250,000 team members in the United States alone [and] we want to tell them that this isn’t just a normal product, so we want to make a really big deal in the restaurants”.
“The company brought the item to five markets a year ago – Salt Lake City, Memphis, Baltimore, Detroit and Kansas City – but made sure to steer clear of New York City and Chicago”, reports Sarah Whitten for CNBC. For those employees for whom it may not already be clear, Snoop adds: “You know relish ain’t nothing but chopped up pickles?” “We haven’t been as excited about a product announced like this in a long long time”. “We’re tapping into a whole new category”.
According to Burger King’s North American President Alex Macedo, this addition is the most significant menu addition for the burger chain since it added a chicken sandwich in the 1970s.
The Classic Grilled Dog and the Chilli Cheese Dog will launch at Burger King locations across the USA on February 23. They’ll be flame-grilled, not boiled, and served on an untoasted white bread bun. Not making the cut for the national debut was the .49 corn dog. “We did research across the country to find the preference for condiments on a hot dog. Informed that Chicagoans consider it a sin to let ketchup come near a hot dog, Macedo responded, ‘Well, you can have it your way!”
Burger King has had its share of flops, as well.
“It was the biggest market test that we ever did”, he says.
There is also a Spanish-language version of the training video featuring Charo.
At risk of sounding like a glutton, one hot dog is simply not enough to fill me up.
Burger King, which is owned by Restaurant Brands International (QSR), will be introducing hot dogs later this month. It’s the first time in Burger King’s 62-year history that it will offer hot dogs.
“The dog, which has grill marks and a split texture, has excellent snap for a fast food dog, with more blackening than Sonic’s All-American dog”.
