Burlingame: Addition of Trump a great deal for California GOP convention
Trump was the favored candidate by far in Floyd and across the 14th District, netting a total of 48,200 votes compared to runner-up Cruz’s 25,567.
A poll released Thursday finds that one out of every three Republican primary voters supports a third-party presidential run from Donald Trump if he is denied the GOP nomination at a brokered convention. “And the bigger-” Fallon’s Trump said back, before pointing down to his trousers.
Then in April 2012, he enrolled in the Republican party, two months after endorsing Mitt Romney during an event at the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Las Vegas. Jane, a resident of New Jersey who used to live in the city, traveled to the protest to be part of the demonstrations that she hopes will lead to changed minds. When I said NY values, I was merely trying to say I value NY.
Attendees said afterward that they simply weren’t all that interested in Cruz, and his infamous “New York values” comments still rankled. Fallon-Trump joked. “HUGE! Next question: The New York Primary is on Tuesday”.
Trump defined “New York values” by offering some of those values qualities.
Trump noted that it all began at the venue for Thursday night’s gala, the Grand Hyatt, which Trump renovated in partnership with the Hyatt Corporation in 1976 – one of Trump’s first forays into Manhattan’s real estate market.
“If we nominate a candidate who loses to Hillary Clinton by double digits, who loses to women by 20 points, who loses Hispanics by 40 points, who loses young people, we can not win in the general (election)”, said Cruz. Currently, Trump has 743 delegates to Cruz’s 545 and 143 for Kasich.
Also on hand was Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, the party’s most recent NY gubernatorial candidate.
Cruz conceded that Trump has the home state advantage, but said he still plans to take on the billionaire businessman at the Republican National Convention in July.
US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan met with reporters as the Trump meeting was under way. Others said: “Deport Trump”, “No allegiance for Trump”, and “Black lives matter”.
“.and start enforcing the rule of law”, Cruz went on.
The Republican Party in Colorado previous year chose to forgo holding an open presidential primary or caucus contest for the 2016 cycle due to cost concerns, choosing instead to have party members select delegates at the state convention.
Trump hasn’t just focused his criticism on the delegate selection process but also the prospect of “double-agent” delegates.
The toughest crowd, though, was outside, where hundreds of protesters chanted “Racist Trump out!” and carried anti-Trump signs – a reminder that even in his hometown, Trump’s crowds aren’t always friendly.
