Bus crash closes I-95 in Connecticut
A chartered casino bus rolled over on Connecticut’s slippery I-95 in Madison, injuring at least 30 people and closing the busy highway on the northbound side. Thirty people have reportedly been injured, six of whom were in critical condition.
Dr. Andy Ulrich with Yale New Haven hospital said they are preparing for 30-40 patients to be brought in, six of them are in critical condition.
The incident happened at about 12:25 p.m. on Interstate 95 near Madison, according to Connecticut State Police Trooper Kelly Grant. The station reported all passengers were out of the bus. The rest were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and St. Raphael’s Hospital, according to police.
A Mohegan Sun spokesman told The Day of New London the bus was headed to the casino. He said all other buses from NY to the casino were being sent back to NY.
A dozen or so emergency vehicles were seen near the overturned, including about a half a dozen ambulances.
As many as 55 people were on board bus when it flipped over between exits 60 and 61, officials said, and video from the scene shows several people have been climbing out of the front and top of the bus.
