Bus driver, villagers saved many lives in Punjab
The driver of Punjab Roadways bus, which was targeted by the terrorists in a pre-dawn attack in Dinanagar town in this district, showed tremendous presence of mind and helped save lives. “As per my routine I was on my way to buy milk”. I saw something wired to the bridge.
The person seemed suspicious to me.
“The timely detection of the bombs saved many lives“, Satpal added. The train was stopped 200 metres from the bombs. He signalled me to stop.
The terrorists also intend to cause more deaths by wiring five live bombs on the railway track on a small bridge on the Pathankot-Amritsar railway section. Four trains run on this section daily.
“Nanak Chand saved the lives of 76 passengers”.
Punjab Roadways bus driver Nanak Chand was the hero of the day.
The driver did not panic even when one terrorist fired at the bus, after trying to signal it to stop. Instead, he stepped on the accelerator and the terrorist had to jump out of the speeding vehicle’s path to avoid being mowed down. The firing by the terrorist left 2-3 passengers injured with gunshot wounds.
“I saw a man in Army uniform”. I thought that it was important to save their lives.
A bus driver in the Indian state of Punjab has described how he managed to stop an armed attacker boarding his bus during a siege on a police station.
The terror attack began at 5.30 am when a group of terrorists shot at Nanik Chand’s bus, then car-jacked a Maruti 800 and drove to a police station in the town of Dinanagar, where they spent almost 11 hours shooting back at security forces. Thereafter he called the police.
