Busch passes Blaney for Trucks win
Kyle Busch had the fastest truck on Saturday at Michigan global Speedway, but it took an assist at the end of the Careers for Veterans 200 to win.
Still, Busch won the race despite being penalized on the 27th lap for speeding as he entered the pits, which sent him to the rear of the field, and came back to win a race that had four cautions in the final 30 laps. – Blaney, on the push Jones gave Busch, giving Busch a lead that would hold up through the final four laps. The race stayed green to the finish despite a last lap spin for Spencer Gallagher, and Busch was 0.157s ahead at the line as he claimed his 44th victory in 127 Camping World Truck Series races, and his second win in two outings in 2016 since his return from injury. Erik Jones finished third in his No. 4 Toyota in Saturday’s 100-lap, 200-mile race. It was Busch’s first Truck victory at Michigan in nine starts.
“Those last restarts, I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out”, Busch said. “Our truck was so strong and I just knew that if I could bide my time and if I had enough laps and before the time would run out I could get back to him and fortunately we were able to do that”.
Jones and Busch are teammates for Kyle Busch Motorsports, and Blaney said that was a factor toward the end.
Blaney, Jones, Sauter and Dillon rounded out the top five.
“We got the lead on the restart there; that was good for us to get the lead”, Blaney said.
On a restart with 24 laps to go, Busch gave up the lead to Blaney and second to Crafton. “These trucks tend to put on a good show”, Busch said.
Brad Keselowski’s foundation and the Cooper Standard Foundation, a business partner of the Rochester Hills racer, were the presenting sponsors of the race.
NOTABLES: Tyler Reddick, who finished ninth, remains the points leader but was never a factor Saturday. However, after tangling with John Wes Towny on the Lap 90 restart, Crafton was shuffled out of the lead pack despite saving his truck. Jones, a rookie, is third in the standings, one point behind Crafton.
