Busch tops trucks field
That was the situation for Kyle Busch in the NASCAR Camping World Series Careers for Veterans 200 presented by The Cooper Standard Foundation and Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation at Michigan worldwide Speedway. It was part of an eventful day for Busch, who wrecked his Sprint Cup auto in practice and then was penalized in the Truck race for speeding on pit road about 30 laps in. The race stayed green to the finish despite a last lap spin for Spencer Gallagher, and Busch was 0.157s ahead at the line as he claimed his 44th victory in 127 Camping World Truck Series races, and his second win in two outings in 2016 since his return from injury.
Jones took the conservative route and finished third in his first start at MIS.
In other words, Busch needs to avoid major mistakes during these last four races of the regular season.
Busch won after he passed Ryan Blaney on Lap 196.
Kyle Busch slid onto the grass after coming through a turn during NASCAR Sprint Cup practice Saturday, damaging his No. 18 Toyota. Jones tagged along with the pair as they broke away from the rest of the pack, and while Blaney tried everything he could to get back around the #51 it was clear that Busch had the edge.
Blaney was able to jump to the lead when the race resumed, and not even working together was enough to get Hemric and Dillon back the front. He also has won a couple Xfinity races, and he is unbeaten on the Truck series.
“When we got the lead, I knew it was going to be hard to keep (Busch) behind us”, Blaney said. They timed it right and I just couldn’t slow ’em down. We were close today. Crafton pitted and the crew made its best attempt to fix the problem but later acknowledged the proper pieces was missing from the pit box.
“I was just running along, everything was fine, and I was actually feeling pretty good about it”, Busch said.
Crafton rallied back to the top-five after pitting for the final time on Lap 68. Jones’ third-place run moved him to within one point of Crafton.
