Bush Acknowledges GOP Is Imploding, Without Taking Any Responsibility
Bob Dole, the 1996 GOP nominee and the only living Republican presidential choice who is attending the convention, has criticized Republicans who are skipping it.
There are several other well known Republicans staying away from the convention, including former nominees Mitt Romney and John McCain, and former Trump rival and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
“President Bush does not plan to participate in or comment on the presidential campaign”, the younger Bush’s spokesman, Freddy Ford, said.
At that time there were two candidates left in the race for the Republican nomination, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, and Bush didn’t like either of them, although his displeasure with Cruz was at least in part reportedly related to Cruz’s overtures toward Trump early in the race for the nomination.
But Bush blames Obama’s policy decisions and efforts to act as his own when Congress won’t as the reason why Trump rose to prominence.
“In turn, a few in the Republican Party responded by trying to out-polarize the president, making us seem anti-immigrant, anti-women, anti-science, anti-gay, anti-worker and anti-common-sense”, Bush writes.
Chatting over fajitas at a reunion of former staffers, former U.S. President George W. Bush confessed at a secret meeting of top Republicans that he would be the last GOP president in history, according to a Politico Magazine report Tuesday.
“I don’t even think about him”, she said. Back in April, the former president reportedly expressed fears that the party may never recover.
