Bush rounds on Trump over Obama Muslim response
Returning to his criticism, Bush said, “His problem isn’t the fact that he was born here, or what his faith is, his problem is he’s a progressive liberal that tears down anybody that disagrees with him“.
Businessman Donald Trump, the front-runner in polling, used part of his speech in Iowa to defend himself against critics who said he should have corrected a man at a rally on Friday when he asserted, incorrectly, that President Barack Obama was a Muslim and not an American.
At a conference in Mackinac Island’s historic Grand Hotel, Bush told about 2,000 Michigan Republicans: “I will never violate my conservative principles”.
In his speech, Bush called for a balanced budget amendment, a six year lobbying ban, and deducting pay from congressional member when they don’t regularly show up for work. “But I will assume that someone that doesn’t agree with me isn’t a bad person”. He said he’s also the only candidate who has set out a plan for how Republicans can expand their support into large, mostly black cities such as Detroit without changing the party’s basic messages. Snyder said he is likely to make an endorsement before Michigan’s primary, which will be held next March.
Snyder declines to name his favorite presidential candidates but prefers a governor.
Paul, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination, said that he has a strong campaign network in Michigan, saying his laissez-faire economic policies would do a lot to revitalized Detroit. Besides Bush, others campaigning on the northern Michigan island include Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Texas Sen.
