Bush, Rubio Aim For 3rd Place In Iowa Caucuses
Marco Rubio has got plenty going for him. “We’re not going to fix America with senators and congressmen”.
“We will not just save the American Dream”. You can nearly hear the cheerful guy in the bright red tie saying, “Yes we can”.
It’s time for the Rubio Revolution that I have been predicting for literally half a year, and the Republicans know it. He meant it as a compliment. Or, rather, how odd it would be for a Democratic candidate to run an ad like this. As a result Rubio’s support is broader, but less intense, than that of rivals, who are focusing their appeals more exclusively on one the party’s various constituencies.
Republicans began the new year with a new rhetorical insult as candidates striving to stand out from the crowd focused on voters anxieties over the immigration and national security.
By Thursday, it seemed that Rubio’s fashion critics might have gotten the best of him. “But I really believe this process benefits” from the caucus and primary.
Asked by an audience member about entitlements, he said, “I would take all entitlement money and block grant it back to the states”.

But as he amps up his rhetoric, what Rubio doesn’t mention on the trail is that many of his biggest advocates in Congress have been outspoken supporters of the very bill Rubio is attacking Texas Sen.
Early in the cycle, conservative talking head Ann Coulter discounted Rubio, and Sen. He is also, shall we say, flexible, his shifts on immigration being especially hard to keep up with. Rubio, for example, is clearly in competition with Cruz for many conservative voters.
During his speech, Rubio said he supports increasing border security and cracking down on sanctuary cities, those that violate federal law and shield illegal immigrants. Both McQuaides were pondering whether Rubio might be the better messenger.
Rubio, who is lagging behind Cruz in the polls, has been more forceful in criticizing Cruz while they’ve crisscrossed Iowa. But if Cruz and Trump take first and second place, Selzer says, the third-place finisher can still be meaningful if – and only if – the rest of the pack is far behind. At that level, Trump still leads with 27 percent of the vote, but a host of other candidates are bunched behind him – Rubio (12 percent), Christie (12 percent), Cruz (11 percent) and Bush (11 percent). And like with Gov. Scott’s state, where “we’re going to go after every business in the world to get after Florida, we need a person that’s going to do the same thing”.
