Bush says he’d kill ‘baby Hitler’ if he could travel in time
Marco Rubio of Florida.
Bush is talking about his new book, “Reply All”. As speaker of the Florida state House of Representatives, Rubio also assisted Bush in pushing through his legislative agenda. Rubio was under consideration as Mitt Romney’s running mate at the time.
Rubio talked to a room full of supporters.
Bush did acknowledge that murdering the future German dictator before he had the chance to ignite World War II would be an act that could set in motion unknown consequences.
Whether or not the onslaught ever materializes, Rubio and his team are bracing for it and preparing to counter it by sifting through hours of video footage for instances in which Bush spoke about Rubio as an admiring ally, not a political foe. He could signal a more aggressive tack against Rubio in order to hobble his former protégé before he gains too much momentum. The notion that it is a bad idea to have someone as pro-life as Rubio as the nominee is, to be blunt, one of the stupider arguments one could devise in the primary of a pro-life party where social conservatives play a critical role.
On the stump, Bush has frequently made subtle comparisons between President Barack Obama and Rubio, warning against electing another first-term senator.
This must be the oddest question asked so far this election cycle.
“[Marco Rubio] is proudly pro-life”, Rubio’s policy director Jonathan Slemrod tweeted Monday night in response to the news.
Social media greeted Mr Bush’s theoretical infanticide with a wave of criticism. Strategists and donors say the pressure is on Rubio to show that he is ready to unseat Bush, who has tumbled in the polls, as the first choice among the Republican establishment. Considering his base’s feelings about that medical procedure (more than four in ten Republicans, for example, would rather defund Planned Parenthood, which doesn’t use federal funds for abortive procedures anyway, than avoid a government shutdown), I doubt Bush would even contemplate such a hypothetical, let alone endorse it.
“Given that the next debate is not until December 15, I think most of the unattached donors on the Republican side are looking to make a commitment in the next month”, said one high-level Rubio donor, who asked not to be named.
In a new online advertisement releasd on Tuesday, the GOP presidential candidate notes Bush’s past praise for Rubio, including his statement that he could be a good president.
