Bush says Obama acting unlawfully with gun steps
The Justice Department will consider everyone in the business of selling weapons to be actual dealers, regardless of whether they sell guns themselves. “I believe that enacting sweeping regulations on gun owners is an irresponsible and misguided reaction to real threats from terrorists”. House Speaker Paul Ryan has already called such measures an over-reach by the Executive Branch, and as was the case with immigration, one suspects a court challenge will be raised along the line somewhere.
“Ever since the American people voted to place a check on President Obama’s agenda, he has routinely overstepped his constitutional authority to force his policies on the American people and this gun control push is no different”, RNC chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.
As CNSNews.com previously reported, Obama announced last week in his first weekly address of 2016 that he will be acting unilaterally on gun control legislation, because Congress has not yet acted on it.
Obama introduced a package that includes 10 provisions, including a path to require background checks to cover more firearms sold at gun shows. “For a president who bragged in his speech about having taught constitutional law, he ought to at least understand that Congress makes the laws, not the president – that’s elementary civics”.
“No president should be able to reverse legislative failure by executive fiat, not even incrementally. But I also believe that we can find ways to reduce gun violence consistent with the Second Amendment”. “I will fight this flagrant expansion of executive power and continue to protect the Second Amendment rights of our citizens”.
