Bush wants to embed US troops with Iraqi forces
Bush’s speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library marks a new effort to confront Clinton, a Democratic presidential candidate, and make his mark on Middle Eastern affairs.
“What we are facing in ISIS and its ideology is, to borrow a phrase, the focus of evil on the modern world”, Bush said. “But it can be done”.
The Boston Herald reports that Bush would look at boosting the number of American troops in Iraq that are being used to fight back against ISIS in that country. John Allen, the retired U.S. general in charge of anti-jihadist plans, addressed the alleged zones on July 23, when he announced American planes would be in use at Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base to defend attacks from Syria and Iraq.
The Republican candidates will hold their second debate September 16 at the Reagan Library. “The reality is radical Islam has been spreading like a pandemic across the Middle East, throughout Africa, and to parts of Asia, even in the nations of the West, finding recruits in Europe and the United States”, Bush added.
Bush will also criticize Clinton for only visiting Iraq once as Secretary of State, but Sullivan insisted Clinton, who voted for the war in Iraq, met multiple times with Iraq’s president and prime minister and chaired a committee overseeing the transition from military to civilian rule in Iraq.
Clinton, he says, “stood by as that hard-won victory by American and allied forces was thrown away”.
Mr Sullivan defended Ms Clinton, saying she had accomplished a successful transition from a US military footprint in Iraq to a civilian one.
Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is a rival to Bush for the 2016 GOP nomination, included a tweet promoting his remarks that shows a photo of Bush with his arms around his brother, former President George W. Bush.
While Bush singled out Hillary Clinton’s role in some of the worst foreign policy failures, he failed to provide a sense of overall strategy, losing himself in the details.
“Jeb is a proven leader”, Hatch said. “President Bush signed an agreement that required us to be out by 2011”. “I’m proud to support Jeb’s candidacy for President of the United States as his leadership is desperately needed in Washington”. He endorsed a Canadian plan for embedding troops with the Iraqi Army but said he would not support a “a major commitment of combat forces”.
Leading Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush on Wednesday vowed to pursue an aggressive strategy against Islamic State militants, if elected, as he slammed US President Barack Obama for failing to prevent exremists from gaining ground.
“It was a case of blind haste to get out”, Bush told an audience California. But he accused Obama and Clinton of leaving the country unstable: “Rushing away from danger can be every bit as unwise as rushing into danger, and the costs have been grievous”, he said. ISIS is another name for the Islamic State group.
After Mr Bush’s speech, Clinton campaign advisor Jake Sullivan called the former governor’s argument “a pretty bold attempt to rewrite history and reassign responsibility”.
Bush ends his Nevada swing with a town hall event in the shadow of the Las Vegas Strip before making his way to Iowa for the remainder of the week.
Bush admitted that his brother made mistakes.
