[BUSINESS] Somalia : Daallo Airlines flight makes emergency landing after catching fire
“We just heard a loud noise and couldn’t see anything but smoke for a few seconds, when visibility returned we realized quite a chunk of the plane missing”, Kullane wrote of the incident.
Below are photos from of the plane which was forced to land at Mogadishu.
A passenger plane has made an emergency landing in Somalia’s capital with a gaping hole in its fuselage.
Flight D3159 departed from the Aden Abdulle International airport at 11:20am local time before turning back 20 minutes after takeoff.
Images of the damaged aircraft show a frayed hole, located over the right-hand wing, with torn pieces of fuselage bending away from the opening.
It turned around and performed an emergency landing, but not before, according to witnesses on the ground, a burnt body fell from it.
There was no immediate explanation of the explosion from the airline or Somali government officials.
Officials are investigating the cause of the incident.
It is unclear whether these assertions and the Daalloo Airlines incident are linked. There was also a report that a passenger was sucked out of the plane but no information about injuries was confirmed.
Based at Dubai Airport Free Zone, the firm operates scheduled services in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.
