Button gearing up for last lap at Abu Dhabi
“It’s none of what you just said”, Rosberg said.
“I’ll be proud of myself and what I’ve achieved as long as I feel I’ve given my all and performed at my best”.
“In Brazil. I was joking that I would still be taking things one race at a time”.
He said: “You’ll have to buy my book down the line in ten years time when I tell you exactly what happened”.
How he handles it in the day-to-night race could be crucial.
“It’s going to be a hugely emotional weekend and I hope with the support of the fans, the team and the people that are closest to me, we can go out there and give it our absolute maximum and enjoy the weekend”.
The 31-year-old was beaten to the title with three races to spare last year while the 2014 season ended in Abu Dhabi with Hamilton winning and Rosberg limping home in a stricken vehicle and out of the points after starting on pole position.
Not quite the impossible odds he suggested. But who knows? That could change in six months, eight months, one year.
Lewis Hamilton has hinted at an “interesting” reason why Mercedes chose to switch his and team-mate Nico Rosberg’s engineering team ahead of the 2016 season.
Only Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen have prevented a Mercedes clean sweep.
Sunday will be Massa’s 250th start and this time he intends to finish the race, after crashing out of the Brazilian GP two weeks ago.
Hamilton hinted as much, but refused to reveal his version of the events – or the explanations – that led to both drivers’ individual mechanics’ teams going through a major change of identity. We will of course have a big party!
“Our team spirit is as good as ever, we had some great parties together and everyone sticking together and it is an awesome feeling within the team, so it looks like for sure it was the right thing to do”.
ABU DHABI Jenson Button says he has no plans to race again in Formula One after Sunday’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, even though McLaren are keeping the door open for a possible return in 2018.
But in a wet-starting race that would see championship leaders Alonso and Schumacher endure forgettable weekends, Button did not pit when the safety vehicle came out and that pushed him up the order.
He also said about the same scenario happened in the 2010 season, when Sebastian Vettel took the title from Alonso in the championship decider.
Rosberg can become champion during the race if Hamilton retires.
If Hamilton finishes fourth or lower, Rosberg will win the championship regardless.
Seventh or eighth for Rosberg will make him champion if Hamilton is not in the top two.
“I raced with two of the teams I dreamt of racing [with] as a kid, Williams and McLaren”, he continued.
Hamilton, who will be joined here this weekend by his mother Carmen, faces a tough task to prevent Rosberg winning his maiden title. Hamilton would win on a countback to third places. Rosberg, 12 points ahead of Hamilton, is the firm favourite. “But Lewis did a great job and second place wasn’t a disaster in the end”.
