Buxton, Kepler sent to Rochester; Danny Santana activated, Meyer recalled
Right-hander Alex Meyer was promoted to the majors, where he’ll work out of the Minnesota bullpen.
Outfielders Byron Buxton and Max Kepler were sent to Triple A Rochester.
Defensively, Buxton was outstanding aside from a costly blip a week ago against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Kepler, meanwhile, was squeezed for playing time, and at 23 years old, it probably serves him best to play every day, even if it’s in the minor leagues.
Santana has missed the Twins last 14 games with a right hamstring strain, an injury he suffered fielding a fly ball on April 9 at Kansas City. He went 2 for 10 with the Miracle, including a solo homer on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Meyer had posted a 1.04 ERA over 17-plus innings in Rochester this season. In three games, he has a 1-1 record with a 1.04 earned run average with 19 strikeouts and just four walks.
Meyer, who struggled to throw strikes this spring in big-league camp, opened his third straight season in the International League with 15 1/3 scoreless innings.
Meyer has gotten off to a strong start pitching in Class AAA Rochester.
