BuzzFeed just published ‘explosive’ documents alleging Trump’s ties to Russian Federation
If there is any chance that Russian Federation has salacious material and information that could be used to blackmail President-elect Donald Trump, U.S. intelligence agencies are obligated to investigate every twist and turn of those allegations, regardless of whom Trump installs at the top.
Trump vehemently hit back to deny the allegation, calling the leak a disgrace and comparing the actions of the United States intelligence community to those of Nazi Germany.
During the press conference, the president-elect complimented many news outlets about their handling of the report, including The New York Times, which did not reference or link to BuzzFeed in its initial story.
“I think it was Russia”, Mr Trump conceded at the press conference in NY when asked who was responsible for the leaks of Democratic emails during the campaign.
He also said he “expressed my profound dismay” to Mr. Trump about the leaks that enabled the reporting.
“The dossier, which is a collection of memos written over a period of months, includes specific, unverified, and potentially unverifiable allegations of contact between Trump aides and Russian operatives, and graphic claims of sexual acts documented by the Russians”, the BuzzFeed article accompanying the document states. Information of all kinds emerges in a variety of ways, and then we all get to apply our critical intelligence to it-in public, in real time. “They’re not going to discuss it with me”.
Trump made the remarks during a news conference on January 11 – his first conference since July and likely his last before he formally assumes the presidency on January 20.
The president-elect is also expected to face questions about how he plans to disentangle himself from his family-owned global real estate development, property management and licensing business.
But Trump lambasted as “fake news” an unverified dossier, which is not an intelligence document and was widely shared online, claiming that the Russian government had compromising information about the president-elect.
The president-elect also charged via Twitter that his “crooked opponents” are trying to undermine his electoral victory. US intelligence has confirmed that Russian Federation undertook actions to threaten our democratic institutions, national security, and sovereignty. Made up, phony facts.
“I think it is a disgrace that information would be let out”.
In another oddity from the press conference, Trump was asked about his Wednesday morning tweet questioning “Are we living in Nazi Germany?”
Nevertheless, intelligence officials briefed Trump on a summary of the report last week during a briefing on Russian attempts to interfere in the 2016 campaign, as reported by CNN Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Vladimir Putin denied on Wednesday that the Kremlin had any compromising information, calling the allegation a “complete fabrication and utter nonsense”.
U.S. media has also reported intelligence services have informed the President-elect privately about the allegations, although they have said nothing about the reports publicly.
BuzzFeed CEO and founder Jonah Peretti defended the decision to publish the 35-page intelligence memo in its entirety, saying Buzzfeed will continue to “keep doing what we do best, which is deliver impactful journalism”.
Some material in the reports produced by the former British intelligence officer has proved to be erroneous, the official said.
It comes just over a week out from Mr Trump’s inauguration.
