Byron Scott Is Nonetheless Being Silly About D’Angelo Russell
Barkley laughed and laughed when asked how Bryant had played this season.
Bryant still has the support of Lakers coach, Byron Scott.
“I would never, never, never do that”, Scott said after practice at the Lakers’ facility.
“It’s important to have tangible goals that you can look at and work for”, Curry said. “I got faith in Kobe that he’ll be okay”. Kobe Bryant won’t retire in the middle of the season, but it may be in the best interest of himself to.
Watching the Lakers is not easy, which is confirmed by the 2-12 start to the season, and Bryant is shouldering a large chunk of the blame following an air-ball filled performance in Oakland the night before.
Bryant’s minutes were not the issue in Oakland.
The controversy surrounding Russell has been about his lack of playing time in the fourth quarter. Specifically, re-read the part about scoring 80 points in a game or averaging 35.
“We talk about 33”, reigning league MVP Curry told the San Jose Mercury News. “It’s just not going to happen”, said the Lakers icon. But I definitely know I’m capable. “They do, I think, enjoy being around each other”. However, Scott remained adamant that he had not considered reducing the 37-year-old’s minutes or possibly even benching the five-time champion, citing that Bryant did not seem exhausted and that it was “too early in the season”.
Still, out of everyone that the Times interviewed, no one was as frank as Sir Charles Barkley, who gave some historical context to Kobe’s Sad Farewell Tour.
“A lot of winners have played in this league, a lot of great teams and nobody has accomplished what this team has tonight, so, we’ve got to be proud of those kind of moments”, Curry said.
Scott has not changed his support for Kobe Bryant after averaging 15.2 points on a career-low 31.1 percent per game.
“I’m not really anxious about it, honestly”, said Bryant of his shooting. “My shooting will be better, we’ll be better”.
Scott has already been largely criticized by fans and analysts for not using the rookie point guard D’Angelo Williams, and for continuing to trust the aging star that Bryant is.
“In all honesty, it was tough, the shots that I take, pullup shots and jumpers and contested jumpers – those are tough shots to hit at 27”, Bryant said.
