Byron Scott: Not too early to talk Golden State Warriors greatness
Another debilitating loss caused Lakers coach Byron Scott to stay restless. He watched tape of the Lakers’ 103-97 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center. Scott then joked after Monday’s practice, “I woke up like I had a hangover and I didn’t drink”.
“I’ve got to treat him like a man. And he’s got to learn”, Scott said. He can take 22 shots a game (which he did in their most recent loss) and make just six of them and it’ll be fine.
Luis Scola added 20 points and Kyle Lowry had 13 points and 10 assists for Toronto, which closed out a 2-3 road trip.
“It could”, Scott responded by saying Bryant’s early shooting could have set an unwanted isolation mentality at the start of the game.
The plan, the Lakers said before the season began, was to keep Bryant’s playing time between 28 and 32 minutes per game. But Scott defended his star player.
Terrence Ross, who signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension with the Raptors on November 2, had eight points in 14 minutes after missing six games because of a sprained ligament in his left thumb. “He has that privilege”.
“I’ve seen stranger things happen”, Bryant said Sunday, via ESPN . Other guys haven’t earned that right, yet.
The voice of the “old school” responded again, “No, I haven’t had to talk to them about it. And I don’t think I still have to talk to them about it yet”. For the sake of the team’s future, Purple and Gold fans better hope that players like Russell, Clarkson, Huertas and Lou Williams follow Bryant’s lead, learning from a notoriously shoot-first player to spare the jumper and share the ball – LA doesn’t want to find out what the future will look like if they don’t follow this unexpected advice.
“I thought he played better”, Scott said.
With all of that in mind, most would have to agree a 9-6 start is more than reasonable, even if you haven’t exactly been encouraged by their body of work.
What did his players say?
So according to Scott, Bryant can do whatever he wants to on the floor because he’s been great in the past.
“I feel great. Those days off do wonders”, Bryant said. “We’ve been playing like (crap)”. “We are shooting ourselves in the foot with unsound defensive plays and unsound offensive plays”, Toronto coach Dwane Casey told reporters.
“We’re pretty frustrated”, Griffin said.
Richardson, part of the 2007 “We Believe” team that reached the second round of the playoffs after ending a 12-year drought, has been a big supporter of Green, who took a similar path from Saginaw, Michigan, to Michigan State to Golden State.
Back in April though, Sports World Report cited that Westbrook has been not been entertaining the idea of the trade and was just focused on his play for the Oklahoma City Thunders this year.
Bryant played in a good amount of the game too. “He understood the flow and tempo and space and how to manage a team”. “I took the things that I learned from him, and that’s why I had the success that I had in my career”.
