Byron Scott says Lakers don’t trust each other on the floor
“Seventy-two is a special number”, Curry said. Getting blown out by the historically great Warriors is no great shame, but it’s hard to understand why Scott kept his rookie point guard, D’Angelo Russell, nailed to the bench for the entire fourth quarter.
“I’ve seen him play and it’s disgusting”, the player said. “We’ll figure that out tomorrow”. He is averaging 19.3 shots per game and scoring just 17.8 points per game. “So there’s obviously still milestones that we can continue to go after, but you go after them by how you approach each day”.
From there, the Lakers start a trip in which they play five games in seven days.
Scott said Bryant scrimmaged Friday and participated in “75 percent” of the practice.
Bryant is averaging more field goal attempts per game (a team-high 16.4) than points (15.2).
Because the mass media was less omnipresent in those days and because the National Basketball Association was not the marketing machine it has become, the nation was not riveted by the Lakers’ streak the way it would be today if the Warriors make a serious run at breaking it. But I do remember, week after week, checking the newspaper box scores and seeing the occasional highlight as I asked myself if the Lakers would ever lose. So it’s a hell of a balance to try to do.
Scott said the two have specifically talked about how to develop the young players, although he also said Kupchack hasn’t tried to meddle with his coaching decisions.
A four-game losing streak has forced Scott to consider lineup changes. He is the Lakers’ Kryptonite and nobody is going to save them from him, especially not Byron Scott. I don’t think the way we approach things here is for everybody. “Sometimes that’s making adjustments with your minutes with certain guys”.
“And then in the press conference afterward, somebody would be asking me about this whole ’96 Bulls thing, and I love this stuff!” But I’m not there yet.
With 14 games in the books, Scott recently shared the team gets along, but they now do not trust each other on the court. “Everybody was trying to take advantage in a good way of saying how much they appreciated the way that man played all those many years”.
