Byron Scott won’t sit Kobe Bryant because of poor play
In the past, Bryant has been known as a great and clutch shooter but this season, which is his 20th in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and with the Lakers, it has been one area of his game that has been a continuous issue.
While Kobe Bryant retirement is something many critics point to as the solution to the Lakers problem, coach Byron Scott insists he hasn’t lost faith to his player.
“I would never, never, never do that”, Scott told ESPN on Friday. “That’s not an option whatsoever”. But right now, I’m just taking it a game at a time. “I think that’s probably what we learned with Phil. Phil used to like to keep a little turmoil going around, because it could give guys an edge, and you constantly need an edge, you play better with an edge in this league”. Is Los Angeles keeping Scott on as the head coach in order to lose their way to a Ben Simmons in next year’s NBA Draft? “He tells me when he is exhausted and he tells me when he’s not exhausted”. Scott said he didn’t play Russell in the fourth quarter because it was a blowout and there was nothing to be learned for him in this game.
“Even the great Kobe Bryant can’t be great at age 37 with all of these obstacles joined, colluding with one another to bring him down”, Smith said.
So far this season, the Warriors’ closest match was against the Los Angeles Clippers, who they beat 112-108 having overturned a 23-point deficit halfway through the match.
The former MVP played his last full season three years ago and averaged over 27 points, but multiple injuries and age have combined to sap Bryant’s once-jaw-dropping athleticism, creating a predictable series of pull-up jumpers and fadeaways in the post. We got to continue to work, and continue to get better. If he would realize that he isn’t the player that he once was and that his recent play is a new reality and not just a slump, he would have a conversation with Scott and the Lakers executives and take a role similar to what Kevin Garnett has in Minnesota. “I’m not going to sit there and say, ‘This is it, Kobe, you’re done, ‘ because it’s not my decision, it’s his decision”.
The Warriors didn’t get the win without Harrison Barnes suffering a sprained left ankle in the third that forced him to helped off the floor.
Scott and Bryant were teammates during Bryant’s rookie season.
In a humiliating 111-77 loss to the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena, Bryant shot 1-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-7 from 3-point range, and scored four points.
