Byron Scott Won’t Stop Kobe from Being Kobe
After suffering the worst win percentage in franchise history, the Lakers landed D’Angelo Russell to go along with the returns of Kobe Bryant and Julius Randle from injury. However, Scott remained adamant that he had not considered reducing the 37-year-old’s minutes or possibly even benching the five-time champion, citing that Bryant did not seem exhausted and that it was “too early in the season”.
“I would love to play the same type of rotation and get productivity from both (units)”, Scott said. “That’s not an option whatsoever”. “I don’t think it’s a matter of him being exhausted or his legs being exhausted, I think it’s a matter of his timing just being a little off”. “Do they think I’m happy?” Between Kobe Bryant and Byron Scott and all of the drama that their relationship and their effect on the team has caused, the 2015-16 season is not looking great after a 2-12 start. We are a young team, very hungry we’ve got great veterans that won’t let us be complacent.
Showing off their firepower, the Warriors were 15 for 20 from 3-point range in the first half on their way to scoring a season high in points.
Yet, Scott said Kupchak has left Scott freedom to coach as he sees fit.
With the rest of his teammates trying to keep their heads despite their losing streak, there’s not much Bryant can do but to throw in the towel. “It’s been tough. (But) My shooting will be better”. Russell did not play well to start the year so him not playing in the fourth quarter made at least some sense but now Russell has played better and should be getting those minutes.
I’ll go with the one that states that Scott will only be around for as long as Kobe is.
Still, Scott said he would prefer that Bryant not shoot as many threes as he has done in the past few games.
“The frustration just kind of got to me tonight, it affected the way I played, the way I shot – blowing coverages defensively”, he said.
“I’m not really anxious about it, honestly”, said Bryant, referring to his abysmal performance during the game against the Golden State Warriors, according to the Washington Post.
Scott revealed he and Kupchak have addressed “what we can do to get these young guys better and make the procedure for them a lot easier”.
