Cairo blast in front of Italian consulate – state news agency MENA, security
A security official said the exact cause of the explosion was still unclear, but investigators are believed to be looking at the possibility of a vehicle bomb after the remains of a vehicle were found in the area.
The blast early Saturday morning killed one person and injured four others, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry.
The blast caused some injuries but no deaths, authorities said.
An Egyptian security official said one civilian and one policeman were also injured. The Brotherhood says it is a peaceful movement.
Egypt has witnessed a recent increase in attacks against tourism targets, including a suicide bombing near the ancient Karnak temple in Luxor last month.
Militants have carried out scores of attacks since the army overthrew Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, killing hundreds of policemen and soldiers, mostly in the Sinai Peninsula.
The violence, and political turmoil that followed the 2011 uprising have hurt Egypt’s tourism industry, a pillar of the economy.
