Cairo Discusses Canceled EgyptAir Flight With Moscow – Aviation Minister
VedomostiLast week, the Russian Tourism Industry Union reported 1.5 billion rubles in losses since flights to Egypt were suspended on November 6, news agency Interfax said.
Egypt’s aviation minister said in a statement that Cairo had “not been officially informed about the cancellation of Egypt Air flights from Saturday to Moscow”.
The UK Government has been working with airlines for over a week to provide tighter security at the Egyptian airport and allow travellers to fly back safely.
“We also received a recommendation from the Civil Aviation Committee to suspend flights”, she said.
The aviation agency didn’t give any immediate reason for the ban on flights.
The decision comes a week after Moscow suspended passenger flights to Egypt in the wake of the Sinai crash in which all 224 people on board were killed mostly Russian nationals.
“This is a conspiracy against Egypt”, Gresha said.
Russia’s ambassador to Cairo, Sergei Kirpichenko, told a local television channel there that cancellations of EgyptAir flights to Russian Federation were “temporary security measures“.
The investigation into the crash remains a mystery to many Egyptians, with little information available, Sayed added.
This has included transporting hold baggage on separate planes.
However, both Russian Federation and Egypt maintain that no conclusions have been reached into the cause of the crash despite allegations that the plane was downed by a bomb planted by ISIS.
Egyptian tourists Adel El-Sawy and his wife Aya said Sharm El-Sheikh is quiet compared to a year ago during this time.
US and British officials have mentioned intelligence reports suggesting that the plane was brought down by a bomb on board just after it took off from Egypt’s Sharm al-Sheikh en route to St. Petersburg.
