Caitlyn Jenner could face manslaughter charge over fatal crash
Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said investigators have concluded that Jenner’s driving was “unsafe for the prevailing road conditions” (via The AP).
The driver of the Lexus, 69-year-old Kim Howe, was killed when her vehicle was struck head-on by another auto.
Sheriff’s investigators in Los Angeles are recommending that charge to prosecutors for Jenner’s role in a fatal vehicle crash.
Caitlyn Jenner could face up to one year in prison for vehicular manslaughter.
According to Det. Richard Curry of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept., since detectives uncovered “nothing really egregious” in their investigation, he says there’s a “50/50” chance Jenner will be charged. She was formerly known as Bruce Jenner, the 1976 Olympic decathlon champion and Kim Kardashian’s stepfather.
In February 2015, Caitlyn – who was still going by the name Bruce when involved in a deadly auto accident – took the life of another woman. “When someone dies as a result of the accident, and there’s negligence involved, then the DA’s office can file a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter”. I am praying for them.
Steindorff has publicly criticized Jenner for not speaking out about her responsibility in the crash, especially around the time that Jenner was given the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.
Jenner, who was unhurt in the crash, has also been sued for wrongful death by Ms Howe’s stepchildren who claimed the 65-year-old was “negligent, careless and reckless”.
Jenner told police at the time she was being pursued by paparazzi at the time, although not trying to evade them.
Jenner’s attorney, Philip Boesch, told City News Service in July he believes the surveillance video weighs in Jenner’s favor and confirmed that the crash “was simply a tragic accident”.
