Caitlyn Jenner: Easier to come out as trans than Republican
“We had over the last few years, we had three Republican state representatives – Jon Hinson, Larry Craig and Bob Allen – who were all arrested for lewd behavior in a men’s bathroom”, Cait said at the Big Tent Brunch, sponsored by the Log Cabin Republicans and American Unity Fund. “Maybe what we should do is ban Republican representatives at a state level from being in the men’s room”.
By comparison, “it was easy to come out as trans!”
Caitlyn Jenner caught a flight out of LAX today en route to the Republican National Convention, and we wonder if she knew daughter Kendall was at the airport at the same time? Noting that the event was a first for the RNC – if not among the RNC’s most controversial – Deaton was quick to note that “the future of the Republican Party is inside this big tent”.
Caitlyn Jenner’s conservative political views are seemingly at odds with her status as one of the world’s most famous transgender people, and the former Olympian admits that it isn’t always easy to reconcile her personal politics with the Republican platform, which isn’t exactly what you’d call LGBT-friendly. The American Unity Fund is a non-profit group that supports LGBT causes on behalf of friendly conservatives and Republicans. I’m not giving up on this constitution. I want jobs for everybody-I want jobs for the trans community.
Jenner said that the “bathroom issue” has been used by politicians since 1877, and noted that in cases where trans people can use the bathroom of their gender identity, not genetics, there hasn’t been any instance of criminal activity. “I admire her for that”.
“I have not had any issues about bathrooms myself”, she said.
Jenner said she’d wanted to transition as early as the 1980s but was too afraid because she felt as if she was the the only person grappling with these issues. “Hopefully we can all make some positive changes if we all work together”.
As for Donald Trump, Jenner wouldn’t say much except that she had been “very disappointed [with the GOP] over the last five or ten years, but I won’t give up hope on it”.
