Caitlyn Jenner Faces Possible Manslaughter Charge
Caitlyn Jenner could face a vehicular manslaughter charge after sheriff’s investigators found she was driving unsafely when she caused a chain-reaction crash that killed a woman last February, officials said Thursday.
The department will make the recommendation to the local DA, who will have the final say. Howe died at the scene after Jenner’s SUV hit her vehicle and sent it into the path of a Hummer coming in the opposite direction.
Vomhof said Jenner’s celebrity probably ensures that that the presentation detectives will make to prosecutors next week will be based on rock-solid evidence and an exhaustive investigation. I am praying for them.
It happened several months before Caitlyn Jenner’s transition. The Lexus was pushed into traffic.
A Sheriff’s spokesman confirmed to Reuters that the department’s investigators had concluded their investigation and would submit the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney next week, but declined to say if those detectives would recommend a manslaughter charge. She was previously referred to as Bruce Jenner, the 1976 Olympic decathlon champion and Kim Kardashian’s stepfather.
Jenner released a statement shortly after the incident occurred that reads in part: “My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this bad accident”.
“The sky’s the limit with what a jury could award”, said lawyer James Fox, who specializes in auto crash lawsuits.
While Caitlyn was not speeding at the time of the fatal accident, she was going too fast for the conditions that day.
A misdemeanor could technically result in jail time, but experts have told ABC News that, even if convicted, Jenner would be unlikely to face jail time for a misdemeanor charge because of her clean record.
Jessica Steindorff, the owner of the Toyota Prius also involved in the multiple collision, and Howe’s two stepchildren, Dana Redmond and William Howe, are seeking damages as well as compensation for Howe’s death.
