Caitlyn Jenner Receives Glamour Woman of The Year Award
While accepting her award “for her work creating stronger roles for women in film”, at Glamour’s annual Women of the Year awards, Reese Witherspoon took the chance to call out sexism in Hollywood. She said, “Of all the things I’ve done in my life, Caity is why God put me on this earth: To tell my story, to be honest with myself about who I am”.
Tonight was a big night for Caitlyn Jenner, who was crowned Woman of the Year for Glamour magazine’s 2015 Women of the Year awards. “If I can do it, anyone can do it. I want to make a woman feel like the best version of herself”, she said.
According to People, during her acceptance speech, Jenner spoke about her transition, joking, “There was a French activist and writer, Simone de Beauvoir, who said, “You are not born woman”. Jenner was honored with the top nod for Glamour Magazines 2015 Women of The Year Awards and was given the award for Woman of The Year.
Witherspoon’s company went on to produce the massively successful films, Gone Girl and Wild, which the star says wouldn’t have been possible without the support from her husband.
Jenner revealed that coming out with Diane Sawyer was a pivotal point in her life.
Page Six reports Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive, also told the Associated Press that criticism over Jenner’s presence at the women’s event “certainly gives you an appreciation for the hostility to the trans community that still exists out there”. “I urge each one of you to ask yourselves: What do we do now?”.
The 66-year-old I Am Cait reality star stunned in a custom blue long sleeve silk gown with black lapel detail by Moschino Couture! by Jeremy Scott. She admitted that prior to flying to NY for the awards ceremony, she hadn’t been on an airline in more than a year. Why? “You’re incredible @caitlynjenner congrats on being woman of the year for @glamourmag”. “I leave tomorrow!’ I think I flew for one night…and they got it and it really made my day”. “So it’s always the little things in life that really you notice”, Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, said.
Witherspoon wrapped up her speech by saying that issues of sexism are not limited strictly to Hollywood – and by encouraging those in the audience to believe in their own capabilities and pursue change.
