Caitlyn Jenner’s Name and Gender Change Legally Approved
The name change also enforces that the former Olympic Gold Medalist is now legally Caitlyn, and ex-wife Kris Jenner may just have to get comfortable referring to her as such.
AP reports that the 65-year-old I Am Cait television personality’s request to legally have her name changed from William Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Marie Jenner has been approved by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg.
Jenner learned about the process of making her new identity official during a recent “I Am Cait” episode. Her journey captured the attention of millions. Her new look debuted on the cover of Vanity Fair in June. Now that the name change is approved, calling Jenner Bruce is no longer acceptable.
In the months following the public announcement of her transition, Jenner has often spoken about dangers that trans people face.
Soccer player Abby Wambach, of the US women’s national soccer team, left, presents Caitlyn Jenner with the Arthur Ashe award for courage at the ESPY Awards at the Microsoft Theater on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, in Los Angeles.
Speaking about Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, the model and reality TV star said: “My sisters raised me along with my parents, and Kylie and I got to learn from their mistakes, for sure”. However, some details attached to the request were redacted in the hearing due to privacy concerns and threats that she has received since announcing her transition.
Earlier this month Caitlyn took to the golf course with her good friend and host of The Today Show, Matt Lauer where she opened up about her new life as a woman.
‘Of course I am, ‘ Jenner quipped back.
