Caitlyn Jenner Will Not Be Charged In Fatal Accident
Sheriff’s investigators previously determined the 65-year-old Jenner was traveling at an unsafe speed for road conditions and there was enough evidence to support a vehicular manslaughter charge.
Jenner’s attorney Blair Berk said from the start, she believed a thorough and objective investigation would clear her client from any criminal wrongdoing.
“A traffic accident, however devastating and heartbreaking when a life is lost, is not necessarily a criminal matter”, she added.
A prosecutor made note that Jenner was driving below the speed limit and began braking less than two seconds before the crash.
Jenner came out publicly as transgender in an interview with Diane Sawyer two months later, and her transition has overshadowed news about the crash.
Prosecutors said they could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Jenner’s “conduct was unreasonable”, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s charge evaluation worksheet.
According to the report by Daily Mail, the multi-vehicle auto crash happened last Winter, February 7 before Jenner’s announcement of her transitioning into her new identity as Caitlyn. The accident left Jenner with a few injurious.
However, Jenner is still not in the clear over the tragic accident – she is facing a wrongful death lawsuit from Howe’s adult stepchildren, while one of the other drivers involved in the wreck, Jessica Steindorff, also filed civil action in June (15).
Officials say Kim Howe’s Lexus rear-ended a Toyota Prius on the highway.
“I think going through something like this is hard because the whole thing is something I’ve never dealt with before and I realize that I still have a long way to go before I can process all of this and understand it and seeing these clothes and realizing that Bruce has thrown them out makes it real”, Kris Jenner said.
“Now, ultimately a jury trial in this civil case is the only way to hold Ms. Jenner accountable for causing Kim Howe’s death”.
