Calais Refugee Crisis: Teenager Killed By Train Near Channel Tunnel Entrance
The death of the man, thought to be between 15 to 17 years old, is the first after a relative lull in casualties of individuals, mostly from Eritrea, Sudan, Afghanistan and Syria trying to gain access to the UK.
A teenage refugee has been killed by a freight train near the entrance to the Channel Tunnel in France while attempting to reach Britain. Local officials told the outlet the train hit the teen at about 2:00 a.m. local time as he attempted to cross the tracks. He was found dead on the tracks, the official said.
“Upon arrival, they found the body of a migrant, believed to be a minor from Africa”.
In one extraordinary attempt to enter the United Kingdom illegally, one Sudanese migrant managed to walk nearly the full length of the 31 Channel Tunnel before being arrested by British police half a mile from the end.
About a dozen migrants have died since this summer near Calais, where they are camped in hopes of reaching a better life in Britain. Meanwhile in Calais, French riot police have moved in to clear the refugee camps sprung up around the coastal town, firing tear gas and bulldozing the tent cities into the ground. Last week, a Syrian refugee was electrocuted in the underground passage.
