Calgary Hail Storm 2015 Thrashes Trees And Gardens, Floods Streets
Heavy rain, hail and strong winds have whipped through Calgary, leaving some damage in their wake.
A massive cleanup is underway after much of Calgary was battered by an intense summer storm on Tuesday.
Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) deputy chief Sue Henry said 246 calls were made to 911 in the half-hour period around 5:30 p.m.
“It appears the storm has had a wide impact to various areas of the city”. Emergency workers responded to 440 calls for assistance. “Some underpasses in the downtown core were flooded and some vehicles were stranded in these underpasses”.
Dozens of flights at the Calgary global Airport were cancelled or delayed as a result of the hour-long storm. Power was still out Wednesday morning for about 120 homes in the northeast.
Westbound Memorial Drive, from just past Edmonton Trail to 3 Street N.W. Environment Canada is placing Calgary, Cochrane, Airdrie and surrounding areas under a severe thunderstorm watch, after saying conditions are favourable this afternoon and evening for the development of risky storms.
