California mayor says he never endangered kids
Mayor Anthony Silva was arrested yesterday at the camp. Investigators say a semi-automatic pistol that was stolen from Silva was used in two separate Stockton shootings.
Anthony Silva was arrested on Thursday, for allegedly playing strip poker at a summer camp past year, with at least one minor.
According to court documents obtained by KTXL, Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva faces charges of recording confidential communications, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, furnishing alcohol to someone under 21 and cruelty to a child by endangering health.
A California mayor has forcefully declared his innocence and says he never endangered children amid allegations that he made secret audio recording of strip game at youth camp run by him.
At his press conference, Silva said that there were minors present at the event and denied buying alcohol.
The mayor was previously accused of sexual battery by a 19-year-old said a police report that recordnet.com described as “heavily redacted”.
The next day, he clarified his statement to CBS: “I think I said, I’m not African American, but I’m pretty darn close”.
The strip poker incident is said to have happened in the early morning, 7 August 2015 at the Silver Lake Camp.
“He’s angry and he’s going to fight it”, said lawyer Allen Sawyer. The incident allegedly took place at his Stockton youth camp, a facility created to give at-risk inner city youth a safe place to spend part of their summer. He was released after posting $20,000 bond. He waved a brief goodbye to a deputy who escorted him outside. Passengers claimed a drunken Silva made an inappropriate advance on a woman in the vehicle.
“As this will obviously be an ongoing legal battle, I can’t make too many comments about the case”.
After all, he had served as the chief executive of the Boys and Girls Club of Stockton, president of the Stockton Unified Board of Education, and aquatic program director for the San Joaquin County Human Service Agency, where he “help [ed] kids in economically disadvantaged parts of Stockton get access to swimming lessons and pools”, according to his website.
The San Joaquin County DA says Silva has not cooperated with the investigation into the recovered weapon.
CBS reports Silva’s cellphone was seized by the FBI and investigators zeroed in on four videos and 23 photos.
The FBI turned over contents of the cellphone to Amador County on July 26.
The charges revolve around Silva’s involvement in a strip poker game, the Stockton Record reported (http://bit.ly/2aDFiA0 ), citing information from the Amador County district attorney’s office. “We haven’t even had a chance to digest what they’ve said”.
In July 2016, the Federal Bureau of Investigation turned over to Riebe 23 photographs and four video clips related to Silva’s allegedly running a strip poker game involving underage teens at Stockton Silver Lake Camp. A forensic examination of a lifetime of messages, emails, videos and pictures produced an audio recording of a counselor party that lasted about a minute in length.
He added that the conversation included a male who was 16 years old and that the conversation on the clip indicated the individuals did not want to be recorded. District Attorney Todd Riebe said that only some of the almost two dozen photos from the camp found on Anthony Silva’s cellphone showed people who were under 21 and in the possession of alcohol or near alcohol, not that all of the photos on the phone showed people who appeared to be under 21.
“It’s strip poker with one minor and young adults and he’s in charge of that camp”, said Riebe.
