Police are serving a search warrant on a home in Redlands, California, in connection with the deadly shooting at a social services facility in neighboring San Bernardino.
His cubicle-mate Patrick Baccari told the L.A. Times that Farook and his family appeared to be “living the American dream”. The couple had a baby later this year.
He added the reserved Farook, who grew out his beard a few months ago, showed no signs of unusual behavior prior to last night’s shooting.
The attack took place inside a packed conference room rented out for a Christmas holiday event by the center, which provides services for people with disabilities.
Exact details are unconfirmed at this stage, but CNN and ABC reported that there were at least 12 fatalities, while authorities said there could be up to three shooters.
A relative says photos widely circulating on the Internet are not of the suspect in the mass shooting in Southern California.
Maria Gutierrez, who knew Farook, used the same word to describe him to The New York Daily News.
Khan says other family members expressed their sadness over the shootings. “I have absolutely no idea”.
“Mr. Farook’s brother-in-law, Farhan Khan, spoke at a late Wednesday news conference organized by the Council on American Islamic Relations and said he was in shock that something like this could happen”.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said police no longer believed a third suspect was at large: “We’re pretty comfortable that the two shooters that went into the building are the two shooters deceased on San Bernardino Avenue”.
Syed Rizwan Farook was a 28-year-old male who had worked at the San Bernardino County Department for five years, according to ABC 7’s Rob McMillan. He said two of them were in critical condition; the other three were in fair condition.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Farook had been at a party at the center before storming off angrily after an altercation. “It was not clear if Farook was one of the suspects killed in the shootout with police”.
The couple had a 6-month-old daughter, whom they left with Farook’s mother on the morning of the attack, Ayloush says. The second suspect was later identified as Tashfeen Malik, 27.
Police stopped the SUV they were riding in, which led to a pursuit and shootout.
A San Bernardino Police Department spokeswoman said: “We don’t know where those shooters are”.
