California wants renewable energy for half its power by 2030
The bill, SB 350, builds on California’s current 33 percent renewables portfolio standard, which was signed into law by Governor Brown in 2011.
It is fitting that California Gov. Jerry Brown wrote a thoughtful and unusually personal message when he signed the historic piece of legislation known officially as ABx2 15. “I am certain, however, that it would be a comfort to be able to consider the options afforded by this bill”.
“We have the technological means and now we have the legal mandate to reduce carbon pollution”, Brown said in a statement after the Legislature approved the bill, SB350, last month. Since it is hard to predict where there will be sunshine and where it will be windy, Californians might need to invest in storage facilities and other initiatives to make sure electricity is available.
Maynard’s husband and mother were regular visitors to the Capitol, testifying at committee hearings and meeting with undecided lawmakers.
“Climate skeptics don’t quite get it”, Brown said Wednesday.
Brown said that considering what he would do in that situation played a large role in his final decision.
The measure applies only to mentally sound people and not those who are depressed or impaired.
Then it was revived when supporters reintroduced the measure during a special legislative session, adding a provision that law will expire in 10 years unless legislators vote to extend it. And the medical community split, with the chief lobbying group for doctors negotiating sufficient liability protections to remain neutral.
The governor has said the setback has only strengthened his resolve to clean up the environment for future generations.
The law follows the lead of Oregon, who legalized assisted suicide in 1997.
Another bill earning Brown’s signature continues California’s move away from the exit exam high school seniors have been required to pass in order to graduate.
A few of the original aims of the bill were however tempered from earlier proposals.
The law will take effect on Jan 1, 2016.

The California Fair Pay Act creates an additional private right of action-this one with a one-year statute of limitations-for employees who allege they have been discharged, discriminated, or retaliated against for engaging in any conduct protected by the statute. “I think what happened in California is definitely going to inspire people across the country to honor these options at the end of life”. “When it comes to public policy, California is America, only faster”. Of those, Washington officials have verified 485 of them took the drugs, another 59 cases have not been confirmed and the rest died from health problems before taking their prescription. I polled thousands of Montanans one-on-one as I served 60 days at fair booths across the state.
It’s a great question that’s been asked over the years by plenty of adults, and the law isn’t exactly silent on this.
