California Wildfire Threatening 200 Homes
The most active part of the fire was burning along a mountain range in a remote area several miles from the highway that feeds into the lake park.
Authorities have not recorded any injuries as of this posting while mandatory evacuations were ordered for families living in Red Dog, Chalk Bluff and You Bet in Nevada.
CalFire said 300 firefighters and four helicopters had been dispatched to battle the blaze as it cut across rugged, steep and brush-covered terrain. Firefighters had achieved 20 percent containment of the fire as of early Friday. But the winds calmed Wednesday night, and more humid, cool weather is expected to help fire crews Thursday.
Fire officials are referring to the event as the “Wragg Fire”, named for the nearby Wragg Canyon. It was 75 percent contained Saturday.
The wildfire already engulfed more than six square miles of timber and is threatening at least 150 rural homes, Lynne Tolmachoff, the state fire spokeswoman announced.
On Tuesday, firefighters declared the North Fire, which was fueled by high winds in the Cajon Pass east of Los Angeles and torched vehicles on an interstate, 100 percent contained.
The cause remains under investigation. The Lake Solano campground is now closed for fire equipment, officials noted.
Firefighters contained enough of the fire about an hour’s drive from the state’s famed wine country that some residents were able to return home and a threatened highway reopened Friday.
“This is how close it came”, said Beth Goerhring, who shows us scorched earth just feet from the deck of her Quail Canyon Road home.

Cal Fire said it downgraded the size of the fire after doing better mapping of the burned area.
