Calls for peace, mourning for man shot by police
Monday night’s shootings are not the fault of the victims or the Black Lives Matter movement, which is committed to non-violence. Clark, whose death in a confrontation with police, has sparked more than a week of protests.
Nevertheless, Black Lives Matter protesters plan to press on for justice. Police said they are not seeking any other suspects in that incident.
“We ran up on the scene and saw all those folks on the ground, and then probably like five minutes later the police came”, he said.
A member of the federal group identified his office as the department’s Community Relations Service.
According to authorities, the police officers responded to a request for assistance from paramedics who reported that someone was interfering as they tried to help an assault victim.
Police haven’t given a suspected motive for the shootings of the protesters.
Authorities raided the man’s Bloomington home and seized a dozen weapons. Prosecutors have gotten more time to file charges. His name will be released upon charging.
The programs at Jamar Clark’s funeral said, “in loving memory”. At least fifteen of them was arrested, according to activists estimates.
A Facebook event page, hosted by the Minneapolis chapter of Black Lives Matter and promoting this afternoon’s planned protest, alleges that “4 White Supremacists shot 5 unarmed protesters” Monday night.
He said his 19-year-old brother, Tevin, was wounded in the stomach and was in intensive care but was expected to recover. Earlier in the day, shots were fired and one man arrested. Three of the four men held are white, and the other is listed as Asian, police said.

They had been conducting a sit-in at Minneapolis’ 4th Precinct station, where demonstrators had gathered for days to protest the November 15 shooting of 24-year-old Jamar Clark. Mr. Evans said that there is no complete video of the shooting, though investigators have multiple videos that he said are related to the encounter. “We are there until we get justice for Jamar Clark”, she said.
“I’ve been to too many funerals and I’m exhausted of it”, said mourner Sheryllynn Wagner to reporters outside the church.
That likely won’t happen, said Jayme Ali, a pastor at God of All Truth Church. The story of Tuesday night, they say, was not that protesters managed to remain peaceful, but that they managed not to retaliate against continued police provocation. “We know from blackboards and chat rooms and also videos that we have posted on our website that police that are from different counties, police from different districts have come down to entice the protesters, have come down to bully the protesters”.

The league called for a day of mourning and peace after a day of anger and shock gripped the north Minneapolis community. Clark’s family has asked for protesters to end the encampment out of concern for their safety, and U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison said it would be wise to “start thinking about an exit strategy”.
Demonstrators called on police to release video footage of the shooting. The demonstrations in Chicago Tuesday night were not violent, however they were definitely not composed. Both are open to the public. Multiple witnesses say Clark was shot by Minneapolis police when he was handcuffed. Five protesters suffered injuries, all of which were non-life-threatening.
